The Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama is committed to preparing girls for a
successful adult life, and a fundamental component of that is financial literacy.
The practical skills girls develop in Girl Scouts will serve them for the rest of their
lives. Financial literacy can help girls set financial goals and gain the confidence
they need to ultimately take control of their own financial future. By developing
money management skills early in life, girls learn how to increase their income,
become responsible consumers, create a budget, build and manage credit, and
save and invest for whatever’s next.
Despite declines in the overall poverty rate in the United States during the past
10 years, the number of female-headed households living below the poverty
level is five times that of households headed by married couples. The programs
offered through this initiative will focus on developing skills at each grade level
and will build upon one another.
Whether it's learning to count money, balancing a checkbook or playing the stock market, Girl Scouts will learn to prepare for their future.
