These procedures apply to all legacy Program and Training Council opportunities of Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama. To register you can e-mail, mail, fax or walk in your registration and payment. Telephone registrations will no longer be accepted. No space will be reserved until payment is received. All registrations must be received in the office by the close of business day of the posted deadline. All program and training events are offered to Troops in the four Service Areas. This year the activities offer 3 separate packages for troops to choose from during your cave camping weekend. Registration forms and additional information can be found on the website at Cadette and Senior Camporee or feel free to email any questions on the older girl troops.
*April Showers
Join in this council-wide service project started by the Huntsville office in 2003. April Showers is a personal care items drive. Items people use for personal care cannot be bought with food stamps and are often in high demand by those in need. Throughout the month of April, Girl Scout troops will be collecting items to be donated to local agencies whose clientele are in need of such products.
With the help of our community, Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama has collected and distributed more than 98,000 personal care items since the start of this service project. Benefiting from the project were homeless shelters, children's homes, foster care programs, DHR, battered women's shelters, hospice, and day shelters among others. We have provided the following time line to help assist you in making this a successful event for your troop:
April 21-30 - Deliver donated items to agency/organization
May 1 - Deadline to report number of items to Keishia Fuqua.
**Remember to include your name, troop number, and service unit number.**
All GSNCA troops are encouraged to participate in April Showers. Promotional materials are available, however quantities are limited. Register early to insure that you receive your materials. Click here for registration form.

The April Showers patch will be available for purchase for $1.50 each. The patch is available for girls and adults to purchase the first year they participate in the service project. For girls and adults who received the patch in a previous year, year bars can be purchased to be placed under the initial patch for only $.75. Earn Your Cardiac Care-Heart Healthy Hero Patch
This Cardiac Care - Heart Healthy Hero patch program was designed by Jamie Langley, Miss Alabama 2007, to encourage Girl Scouts to learn about their circulatory system and how to keep a healthy heart. *Win-Win Patch
Negotiation is a great way for people to reach an agreement that makes everyone happy or better off. The Win-Win: How To Get What You Want Patch teaches girls the importance of negotiation through different activities. By changing the mindset of girls at a young age, they will be less likely to shy away from negotiation later in their lives and careers. The NASA Student Launch Projects involve students in designing, building and testing reusable rockets with associated scientific payloads. ^Memorial Day Celebration at the Andersonville National Cemetery

The Andersonville National Cemetary will celebrate Memorial Day by placing flags on the graves of our veterans. The National Park Service is offering councils the opportunity to place flags on the 19,000 headstones in the National Cemetary. ^Southern Educational Services Free Tutoring Program
Huntsville City Schools is paying for tutoring for students who attend one of these four schools: Westlawn Middle, Stone Middle, Davis Hills Middle and Chapman Middle. The tutors can meet with students at their schools or at local libraries or community centers near their home. They even provide tutoring on the weekend. Program Volunteers Needed
We are looking for high energy, high fun people to help implement our exciting Council Program Events. Volunteers are asked to serve for the entire membership year and work at least 2 events during the year. Most events take place on Saturday. Training will be provided! Home Place Farm in Pleasant Valley
Cost: $15 per girl
We will meet at 9:30: AM at the Winn Dixie parking lot at 815 S Pelham Rd. near Pizza Hut in Jacksonville and drive to The Home Place Farm. Following completion of events at the farm we will return to Jacksonville for lunch at fast food restaurants or picnic lunch at Germania Springs Park. The remainder of the day will be at The Taming of the Ewe yarn shop on the square in Jacksonville. Junior and Older Girls are invited to participate in a hands-on program to learn about fiber arts and the animals that produces the yarn. At The Home Place Farm, the girls will see alpacas, Baby Doll Sheep and angora rabbits all of which provide fiber that can be spun into yarn. Girls will get hands-on experience making soapy wash cloths from wet felted soap and alpaca fiber. At The Taming of the Ewe, girls will see the difference in the finished products produced from various animals and plants. Then they will learn to knit. Participants will take home their needles and yarn. They will also have an opportunity to further their new skills thru free knitting classes at The Taming of the Ewe. Join Girl Scouts from around the council as you learn how to keep your smile beautiful and bright. The Try-It Workshop will take place at the Offices of Dr. Donald Norby in Anniston. Participants will get an up close look at how a dental office works. It will take the mystery and fear out of going to the dentist. The workshop will be lead by professionals in the dental field. Plants Try-It (Brownie)

Cost: $5*
The BBG welcomes Brownie Girl Scouts to visit The Gardens to earn their Plants Try-It during a two-hour self-guided exploration. Materials will be provided in a special kit for them to complete the requirements they wish. They may choose to plant six different seeds to take home and care for while watching them grow and making observations. They might make leaf rubbings from colorful autumn leaves found in the Alabama Woodlands or learn how to identify different leaves. Any activity they choose will help them understand more about their world and how plants play a miraculous part. Schedule your troop's visit: Saturday: 10 AM-Noon or 1-3 PM. Sunday: 2-4 PM. To reserve project materials, call (205) 414-3953 at least two weeks in advance. A confirmation packet will be sent by mail. If you like, you may order BBG patches at our cost per patch. Try-Its will need to be purchased at the Council Shop. Check out materials at the BBG Library on scheduled date and time. *A $5 usage fee per troop is due at check-out. Enjoy The Interactive Museum and The EcoScape!
The Interactive Museum (TIM), a two-story environmental showcase that challenges visitors to slide down a giant Sewage Pipe, lift a week's worth of garbage, or identify the sources of air pollution on a moving city scape model. The EcoScape, a 4-acre outdoor classroom whose paths wind through a miniature Mobile Basin wetland, past Beneficial Bug sculptures and Fragrance Gardens, and along the Appalachian Trail to a 2-story treehouse. Learn about medicinal plants, edible landscapes, and sustainable landscape practices. If it Rains you will not be able to attend the EcoScape. The Environmental Center will have an Eco Art activity. Tigers For Tomorrow is a last stop exotic animal rescue and environmental center that currently is home to over 30 large carnivores. Children are welcome to spend time at the barnyard animal contact area where they can get up close and personnel with a variety of barn yard animals and some very interesting mammals. Family and Siblings are welcome to attend. Guided tours will be offered at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Big cat handlers will be spontaneously interacting with the big cats to demonstrate natural behaviors throughout the day. Patches and T-shirts available. Betty Wilson, a certified Terry Madden Watercolor Artist, is offering a badge workshop to help Junior Girl Scouts earn the Drawing and Painting Badge. Troop registration preferred but individual girls may attend. This event is for Junior Girl Scouts only. In these workshops the girls will complete activities 1-7 and 9.
